At Karen Maciver Dance, we live and breathe dance. With over 20 years of experience, we have built an established and well-respected dance school that nurtures talent, builds confidence, and fosters a true sense of community. Whether you're taking your first steps into dance or you're an experienced performer, we provide high-quality training in a warm and supportive environment.
Our Story
Karen Maciver has been dancing since the age of two, and her passion for dance has only grown stronger over the years. With an HND in Dance, an HND in Community Arts, and a BATD Teaching Qualification, Karen turned her lifelong love for dance into a thriving dance school. Her goal was simple: to create a space where dancers of all ages and abilities could learn, develop, and find joy in movement.
What We Offer
We teach a wide range of dance styles for ages two through to adults. Our classes cater to beginners, enthusiasts, and competitive dancers alike, offering something for everyone. Our school takes pride in our structured training programmes, where students can progress through annual examinations and showcase their hard work in our spectacular yearly performances at the local theatre.
For those with a competitive spirit, our successful competition teams have made their mark across Britain. We have had the honour of receiving 12 nominations for the prestigious Bobby Barr Freestyle Scholarships, with two of our dancers winning the Junior and Senior Freestyle Scholarships – a testament to the skill and dedication of our students.

If you are looking for a dance school for your child look no further than Karen Maciver School of Dance! I was one of Karen’s original dancers when she started the dance school over 20 years ago. It is amazing to see how much the dance school has grown in that time. It was from Karen that I got my love of dance from. She is an amazing role model and true inspiration to her students. I am now a PE Teacher and have taught Nat 5 and Higher Dance to hundreds of pupils. A career I may not have if it wasn’t for having a specialism in dance due to my brilliant dance teacher (Karen). Karen is not only an amazing dance teacher but she genuinely cares about every student that walks through her door. I am 33 and she still checks in on me to see how life is treating me! I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough to join and watch her dance journey!

Grace started at KMD in 2020 and Libby in 2022. They have loved every minute of it. I can't begin to explain how much Karen has helped both girls grow in confidence and belief in themselves. They have developed into great little dancers who just thrived doing the last two dance shows at the Beacon Theatre. I am so grateful for Karen and all she does for the girls. I can't recommend KMD enough!

I can't express how much I loved my time at Karen Maciver's dance school. Attending for 14 years was truly a life-changing experience for me. From the moment I started, I felt welcomed and inspired. Karen is not just an incredible teacher, she is also a wonderful person. Her kindheartedness creates an environment where everyone feels safe to express themselves and grow. One of the things I appreciated most about Karens dance school was the variety of styles offered.
Whether you were a beginner or an advanced dancer, there was something for everyone. From ballet to contemporary, jazz to commercial, each class was designed to cater to different abilities, allowing everyone to find their niche. Karen's approach ensured that every student could explore their interests and develop their skills at their own pace, creating a true love for dance in all of us. Her patience is unmatched, she always takes the time to ensure that each student understands the techniques, no matter how long it takes. What really stands out the most is Karens passion for dance and her genuine love for her students.
Karen would go above and beyond, celebrating our successes and comforting us during tough times. She has an amazing ability to connect with each student on a personal level, making us feel valued and understood. What sets Karen apart is her unwavering support. She always believed in me and pushed me to reach my full potential. Her guidance not only helped me refine my skills but also created a deep love for dance that I carry with me to this day. Being accepted into dance college was a dream come true for me and I owe so much of that to the solid foundation Karen provided. I will always be grateful for the years spent at her school and the lasting impact she has had on me. Karen is truly a remarkable person, and I feel so lucky to have had her as my mentor.
